The 2010s were a transformative decade in music, marked by an evolution in genres, collaborations, and artist experimentation with electronic sounds, blending pop, dance, and hip-hop.
More than the 2000s, the list of Billboard Hot 100 #1 tracks seem closer to each other in their sound. Also in the 2010s Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift both achieved their first chart topping single, which, seems wild knowing what we know now about Taylor and that her first studio album was released in 2006.
Rihanna absolutely dominated the music scene in the decade having the most #1 singles (9) and holding position for a total of 41 weeks. Her longest-running #1 was "We Found Love" (Released September 2011) which charted for 10 weeks. Over 2012 and 2013 "We Found Love" was nominated for 16 awards, winning 4, including the awards for Best R&B/Urban Dance Track and MTV Video of the Year.
"We Found Love" not only helped boost Rihanna's career but also Scottish DJ Calvin Harris who wrote and produced the track.
"It changed absolutely everything. Career-wise it was the best thing that could ever have happened. For example, in America my tune 'Feel So Close' came out about three months before. But when 'We Found Love' came out, the radio started playing 'Feel So Close' like it was the single after. Then that did really well, it charted well and sold a lot of copies. —Harris talking about the success of "We Found Love"
