The 1980s make me think of a few things. Big hair for everyone, neon colors, hair bands, power ballads, and the spotlight on powerhouse solo artists. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Prince, and Madonna, to name a few.
Madonna ranked as the most successful female artist of the 1980s, with 7 songs hitting #1 on the Billboard hot 100 spending a total of 15 weeks between them. This earned her the moniker as the "Queen of Pop."
Madonna released her first (self-titled) album in 1983 but became known with the release of her second album, "Like a Virgin" which dropped in 1984.
The title track "Like a Virgin" was Madonna's first Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit and stayed in the #1 spot for 6-weeks.
